PA Media and Design Competition (previously Computer Fair)

This year’s Computer Fair is undergoing some changes starting with a name change to PA Media and Design Competition. As well as updated rubrics for judging the competition to some new additional categories, the state is hoping to make this one of the best years yet. While the changes haven’t been officially announced, it’s never too earlier to think about getting your Middle and High school students ready for this innovative competition. The new Computer Fair information and registration should be available soon so stay tuned for the latest updates!

Each school can register one team per event.

STEM Design Challenge

Once again the most popular regional competition is back! This year’s competition is tentatively scheduled to be hosted by Northern Potter School District and to be held on April 1st and 2nd. This competition is for students in grades 4th-8th and utilizes the building tools of K’Nex. So get your students building with K’Nex and thinking about the future competition. Details about the challenge should be available through the state organizers by the end of October.

Each school can register two teams per competition. Each team can be up to four members.

Governor's STEM Competition

A new and improved Governor’s STEM Competition will be held this year and once again we are hopeful that we will have more teams participate. This event is for students in high school and work together in teams of four to design something that can help aid their community with some issue that they might be facing where concepts of STEM and design can be implemented. Competing teams receive $500 to aid in the development and building of their project.

Each high school can register one team of up to five students.

24 Challenge

Even without a state competition last year, our turnout for the 24 Challenge regionally was fantastic! While there is a glimmer of hope that this year will see the return of the state competition, regardless we once again intend to see that there is a regional competition! So on May 13th we will host once again this fabulous mathematical event. While this event is still a long way away, it’s never too early to get your students practicing with their mathematical ability! Registration for this event will not open until early 2019! Other Competition Opportunities

Cyber Robotics Coding Competition

CRCC is an innovative robotics tournament that excites and engages students in coding. Schools can compete and involve students through gaming and competition in STEM, coding and tech literacy. No previous experience is necessary, everyone can participate. CRCC is cloud-based, can be accessed from any computer and uses simulation of virtual 3D Robots that perform complex tasks and missions. By learning to program, planning and strategizing the virtual robot to participate, students will compete within their class, grade, school, district and state to win stages and progress to the finals.

PA Student INVENTION CONVENTION - PAECT

Who: Students in grades 5 -12 from public schools, non-public schools, charter schools, and home schools.

  • Virtual Competition: Held online—winners advance to the Finalists PA Invention Convention.
  • Finalists Competition: Held at The Hotel Hershey (February 12, 2019) during PETE&C—winners advance to the national competition.

  • National Competition: Held at The Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation, Dearborn, Michigan (National Invention Convention & Entrepreneurship Expo). Dates: May 30 - June 2

Sea, Air and Land Challenge

Who: High School Students

PDR Due Date: For Sea Challenge and “From Scratch” robotic systems, PDRs may be submitted as early as December 7th, 2018. All others are due no later than February 15th, 2019.
